Web 2.0 Tools in English Language Learning

Teachers look for ways to make the education process more productive and collaborative. Web 2.0 tools can help teachers with this. Web 2.0 tools are fast, mainly free and fun!  

Some Web 2.0 tools and how you can use them in your classes explained below:

1. Mondly:

                                                       


Language learning is a challenging process and it requires lots of practice. Mondly is a language learning app that can help you with this rough process. 

The Mondly app uses a combination of course materials, augmented reality and chatbots to help learners master a new language. Mondly currently support 41 languages that can be used in any combination. You can learn Spanish through Korean, or however you like! 

2. Busuu: 

                            

Busuu is a paid app that encourages your speaking skills by helping you to practice the language out loud with its speech recognition tool.

You can choose your own level in English(A1-B2, etc.). You can also choose grammar lessons based on your language goal.

Last but not least, you can also choose which days and at what hour you want Busuu to ping you to learn. For example, it can remind you to practice every Wednesdays and Fridays at 2pm.

3. Memrise: 

                                             

Over the last decade or so, language apps have been getting more and more popular. One of them is Memrise. Memrise is a flash-card app. It’s mainly focused on studying languages online. Still, you can also use the app to memorize and practice words from other subjects and fields. Memrise ingrains unfamiliar words and phrases into your brain by using spaced repetition. It helps you gain a basic knowledge of a foreign language.

4. Duolingo

                                                  

Duolingo is a very popular app  which combines machine learning, psychology and innovative education tools to help users learn a new language. You can choose your level when you register.

Each icon represents a language unit and consists of a series of lessons. Your goal is to complete each lesson in the skill tree until you reach the end. Of course, there’s more to it, because Duolingo allows learners to dive as deep into their target language as they want. Each unit has multiple levels, and users must complete unit blocks, or checkpoints, in order to unlock advanced lessons.
